Competition Terms & Conditions

Version 1.4 · Website and venue entry format · Last updated 2 October 2026

1. Promoter

The promoter is Masons, 3 Church Street, Luton, Bedfordshire, LU1 3JE (“Masons”). Open the Box is an independent Masons promotion. No affiliation or endorsement by Luton Town Football Club is implied.

2. Eligibility

Entry is open to people aged 18 or over. Masons staff working the relevant event, performers engaged for it and anyone directly involved in administering or auditing the draw are not eligible. Masons may ask for reasonable proof of age or identity before allowing a contestant to play or paying a prize.

3. Entry

Each eligible Saturday home fixture is a separate competition. The first verified entry is free for each fixture and may be claimed through the Masons website or the fixture-specific venue QR page using mobile verification. One free entry is permitted per verified mobile number per fixture. After the free entry is confirmed, paid extra draw numbers may be offered in the following bundles: 1 for £1, 5 for £4, 10 for £7.50, 15 for £10.50, 20 for £13 and 25 for £15. A maximum of 25 paid entries per person per fixture applies, in addition to the free entry. Availability of paid entry may be switched off by Masons without affecting a valid free entry.

4. Entry closing time, draw and physical presence

Entries are scheduled to close at 7:30pm on the relevant matchday and the live draw is scheduled to commence at 8pm at Masons, unless Masons announces a necessary operational change. Three contestants are selected at random from eligible draw numbers. A selected entrant must be physically present at Masons when called and report to the stage within two minutes. If the entrant does not report in time or cannot be verified as present, that selection is recorded as a no-show and another eligible entry may be drawn.

5. Cash or Key

Before a key attempt, each contestant is offered a guaranteed cash amount. The contestant must choose either to accept the cash, ending their turn without trying a key, or reject the cash and attempt to open the box. Once accepted and recorded, the decision is final except to correct an obvious administrative or technical error.

6. Ten-key mechanic and equal chance

There are 10 physical keys and exactly one opens the box. A contestant who rejects the cash chooses one key. If it does not open the box, that failed key is returned to the bag and all 10 keys are remixed before the next contestant chooses. Each contestant who chooses a key therefore receives the same 1-in-10 chance, regardless of playing order.

7. Jackpot, rollover and reset

The launch opening jackpot is £500. If the jackpot remains unwon after the final contestant on a matchday, it increases by £100 for the next eligible Masons Matchdays competition and continues increasing by £100 after each subsequent matchday on which it remains unwon. If a key opens the box, that contestant wins the jackpot displayed for that attempt and the jackpot immediately resets to £300. If another contestant remains to play at the same event, all 10 keys are available and remixed and that contestant plays for the reset £300 jackpot. If that reset jackpot then remains unwon at the end of the matchday, it increases to £400 for the next eligible matchday and continues by £100 per unwon matchday until won and reset again.

8. Physical result and audit record

The physical lock and key result is the final authority as to whether the box has opened. The application records selections, redraws, presence confirmations, cash offers, decisions, key-attempt outcomes and jackpot events to provide an audit trail. Individual physical keys are not numbered or recorded in the application. A digital record may be corrected to reflect the verified physical event if necessary.

9. Fixture changes, technical problems and safety

If the fixture or event is postponed, abandoned or cancelled, or the draw cannot safely or reasonably proceed because of technical failure, power or connectivity problems, venue emergency or another circumstance outside reasonable control, Masons may pause, reschedule or cancel the competition and will communicate material changes where reasonably practicable.

10. Fair play

Masons may reject or void an entry where there is reasonable evidence of fraud, duplicate-entry abuse, false details, tampering, threatening or unsafe behaviour, or another serious breach of these terms. Relevant decisions may be recorded in the competition audit trail.

11. Prizes

Cash offers and jackpot amounts are stated in pounds sterling. A winner may be required to provide reasonable identity and payment information. Masons will not substitute a lower jackpot after a valid physical win has occurred.

12. Photography and video

Masons may photograph or film the atmosphere and live event. Where Masons wants to use an identifiable contestant or winner prominently for promotional content, it will explain the intended use and obtain any consent or release that is required. Refusing optional promotional use does not invalidate a genuine competition win.

13. Personal information and marketing

Competition information is handled in accordance with the Masons Privacy Notice. Text, email and live telephone marketing choices are optional, separate from competition entry and can be withdrawn. Accepting these competition terms does not itself constitute consent to receive direct marketing.

14. Queries and complaints

Questions or complaints about Open the Box can be raised with Masons at 3 Church Street, Luton, Bedfordshire, LU1 3JE. Masons will review the relevant audit record and physical-event information when considering a dispute.

15. Paid entries, payment and refunds

Paid extra entries are optional and may only be purchased after the free verified entry has been created. Payment is processed by Stripe. A paid entry is only valid once payment has been confirmed and the corresponding draw number or numbers have been allocated. If a payment succeeds but the requested entries cannot lawfully or technically be allocated, including because the 25-paid-entry limit has already been reached, Masons will refund that payment. An abandoned or cancelled checkout does not affect the customer’s free entry. Paid entries have no cash value and cannot be transferred between fixtures.
